How to Quote on Discord

Since its inception in 2015, discord has been the number one application preferred by gamers to talk about their favorite games. The application also helps gamers to communicate with each other while playing in real-time. The fact which makes the chat platform interesting is the ability to use various formatting styles while chatting. You can use bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, highlight to express your words better. But, the trickiest one of them is learning how to quote on discord. So, let’s start with our learning.

Single-line Quotes

Desktop Version

Although the process of quoting is quite similar in iOS, Android, and desktop versions, single-line plotting can be different. Here’s how:

Generally, a ‘>’ symbol is used before the text you want to single-line quote in all versions. However, both ‘>’ and ‘>>>’ has the same result, i.e., they both produce multi-line quotes in the desktop version.
Hence, while looking for a single-line quote, you need to click on ‘Return’ and then ‘Backspace’ to get the desired quote style.
iOS and Android Versions
To get a single-line quote text, start with a ‘>’ and then follow it with space.
After that, write your quote and press on the ‘Send’ button to get the desired effect.

Multi-line Quotes

This effect helps the user to quote texts which may contain line breaks simultaneously. You can either choose to quote the whole paragraph or some of the lines depending upon your requirement.

Desktop Version

As previously discussed, you can get multi-line quote effect by choosing from either ‘>’ or ‘>>>,’ as both the symbol patterns produce the same result. After you have put the symbol, be sure to click on space, and then enter your text. When you send the text, you will see that the entire text has been quoted. Another way to use multi-quotes is to put a single ‘>’ symbol before each line to get the effect separately, but this can be tiresome.

iOS and Android Versions

When opting for multi-line quoting on mobile versions of discord, you will need to use ‘>>>’ symbol followed by space to quote the whole text. Like its desktop version, you can also use the same symbol pattern before each line in the paragraph you want to quote and then click on send.

There is no doubt that you can express your thoughts in innumerable ways in discord with various formatting styles. Starting from simple techniques to choosing unique formatting combinations, you can do anything you want, if you have the basic knowledge of their working. What’s more interesting is that it is an open API, so if you know how to code, you can make up your own formats and share it with others also. This has helped many creators to even invent their own games and share it through various channels available on the platform. So, we hope that you must have caught the fundamentals on how to quote on discord, so start planning your ideas and working on them. Maybe you can also end up designing something unique for the app.
